Nic Brown 33.10.3402's "Mechanica no. 1" EP is a neat fit for Ron Morelli's off-the-wall L.I.E.S. Imprint, doing as it pleases rather than pandering to the average club audience. Take opening track "13" which sounds like a house tune powered by clockwork and tick-tocks along for the entirety of its 13 minute duration without anything of note actually happening; perhaps the purposefully constructed antithesis of that holy grail, the banger. The title track and "LVIV" on the other hand are oddly assembled (and near undanceable) beat constructions brimming with industrial clangour and other assorted aural chaff. For myriad reasons, "Mechanica no. 1" is a deeply strange record and that's always a good thing. Favorite track: Mecanica no.1.
